Carol Lowry

carollowry.jpgI joined Woodlands gym in June last year and the only question really is “Why did I leave it so long?” I have suffered with a vulnerable back since I separated my pelvis during childbirth 16 years ago. Since then I have paid out constantly and would rarely get through a month without my back going. Eventually I listened to the advice from the physiotherapist and bravely crossed the threshold at Woodlands to ask about Pilates classes. If only I had realised how friendly and professional they all are I would not have left it so long. I have not looked back since and, at the risk of sounding evangelical, it has changed my life.

So where am I 9 months on? My back has only twinged but never actually gone. I have discovered muscles that time had forgot and I genuinely feel better about myself. There have been some surprising added benefits too. My asthma has improved such that I hardly need my inhaler, my fitness rating has improved from poor to good and I have lost inches all over! The weight was slow to come off but the staff at Woodlands were amazing. They encouraged and reassured me, looked carefully at my diet and even told me to take it easy when they realised I was trying to do too much. I have now lost 1stone and I am still losing-this time it is off to stay!

Woodlands gym is different from a large fitness centre as the service is so personal. The staff are exceptionally well trained and keep up to date with current trends in health and fitness. They focus on applying new techniques to all aspects of training. The staff consider the whole person and get to know you as an individual. I am learning to correct my own postural bad habits and have become aware of the negative effect stress was having on my health. My busy work life means that time is precious but I have never regretted dragging myself away from my laptop to visit the gym. My stress levels have reduced and yet I feel I am achieving more. I have chosen to be a platinum member which means I get regular monitoring of my progress and a personal trainer (Beware! Becky is not as sweet as she looks!)

I agreed to be a dedicated member and suffer the embarrassment of this endorsement going to press so I could encourage others to give it a try. Don’t put it off as long as I did! Pop in next time you pass by. You will be warmly welcomed and find yourself in expert hands.
